In our new blog series, we want to shed some light on Microsoft Copilot – Microsoft’s integrated artificial intelligence, based on OpenAI, for the Microsoft 365 productivity suite. Throughout the process we will test the integration within the various Office applications, and we will close with some insights to the Microsoft Copilot Studio. Please read our kick-off article as well.
In the last article we talked about Copilot in Outlook and Teams. In this article we will look at the features for Microsoft PowerPoint and Whiteboard.
The integration works for both, the cloud apps of Microsoft and the locally installed softwares. Though, functionality might differ between them.
Important to mention is, that Administrators might need to move corporate devices to the "current update channel". Otherwise users can't use the integration in the locally installed versions and will partially only work in online apps.
Copilot in PowerPoint helps you turn your ideas into stunning presentations. As your storytelling partner, Copilot can transform existing written documents into decks complete with speaker notes and sources or start a new presentation from a simple prompt or outline. Condense lengthy presentations at the click of a button and use natural language commands to adjust layouts, reformat text, and perfectly time animations.
Creating a presentation from a file is one of the most interesting features. As input, you must use a Word file. In a relatively short amount of time (1 minute for a 5-page Word file) Copilot investigates over the file and creates outlines, includes speaker notes, adds images and applies layouts to organise slides. The result is respectable and can now be modified the traditional manual way. "Organise Presentation" is a little helper to group slides into sections and automatically create cover slides.
A full list of available prompts can be found on this Microsoft page.
Copilot in Whiteboard helps you kickstart and accelerate your ideation process to generate, categorize, and summarize your ideas.
The options are limited but can help you generate some initial ideas. This can be handy if you don't know how to start or get a second perspective on the topic you are working on.
In just three short steps you get a reasonable result:
Copilot works well in PowerPoint and supports you with generating presentations from scratch, optimise existing and extracting information to a summary. Those features are potentially helpful in your daily routine and save you some time for sure!
Copilot assists you generating action items for topics you are currently working on. You can suggest and insert up to 36 action items at once which is a decent amount for most default topics.
Now that we have covered the most popular Microsoft Office applications, we will switch topics for Copilot. In the next article we will investigate Copilot for Security. This brand-new tool is supposed to support Microsoft 365 administrators with security regards. I am already curious to see how it performs.
